Government Lab Reveals It Has Operated Quantum Internet For Over Two Years

From Technology Review:

A quantum internet capable of sending perfectly secure messages has been running at Los Alamos National Labs for the last two and a half years, say researchers. […] Today, Richard Hughes and pals at Los Alamos National Labs in New Mexico reveal an alternative quantum internet, which they say they’ve been running for two and half years. Their approach is to create a quantum network based around a hub and spoke-type network. All messages get routed from any point in the network to another via this central hub.

Today I had to track down the source of the high pitched sounds I could hear all the way from the adult new book section. To my delight, I found an 8 or 9 year old girl doing the gangnam style dance to this video, which was blaring from the computer without headphones. With regret, I told her we had to turn the volume down. WITH MUCH REGRET, I did this.

System Lets Runners Read on Treadmill

A new innovation allows treadmill users to work their bodies and brains at the same time.

The system, called ReadingMate, adjusts text on a monitor to counteract the bobbing motion of a runner’s head so that the text appears still, says Ji Soo Yi, an assistant professor of industrial engineering at Purdue Univ.

Come along to the Waipukurau Library March 26 @ 5.15pm for the launch of CHB District Libraries YR 7, 8 & 9’s bookclub.

Adele has written for the NZ School Journal and published several junior chapter books for US and Australian Schools. Her first novel “Too Many Secrets” was published in 2010 and her second “Just Jack” in 2011 was a finalist in the 2012 NZ Post Children’s Book Awards and listed as a Storylines Notable Book 2012. The sequel to “Too Many Secrets” – “The Last Herrick Secret” has recently been released.
